River Pahang International Rafting Expedition






Memories of River Pahang International Rafting Competition 2006 a.k.a Ekspedisi Berakit Antarabangsa Sungai Pahang 2006


For this year, the expedition will be held this 24 -28 May 2009. After 3 years, our college will participate in this very exciting n challenging expedition!



INTERNATIONAL PAHANG RIVER RAFTING EXPEDITION 2009
24 – 28 MAY 2009


ELIGIBILITY
Participants must be at least 16 years old on the day of the registration for the expedition and should be medically
fit.

ROUTE & STOPS
The expedition starts at Temerloh on Sunday 24 May, 2009 and ends at the Kuala Pahang, Pekan on Thursday
28 May 2009.

Along the route there will be five (5) stops and at each stop participants will have the chance to
meet and feast (kenduri) with villagers, watch and even participate in the local cultural programmes..
SUBMISSION OF ENTRY

Application for participation should be made on official entry forms which are available from the office of the
organiser, the FRASER’S HILL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, JKR 300, Jalan Masjid, 25000 Kuantan,
Pahang Darul Makmur, MALAYSIA (Telephones: 609 5171623/5171624 Fax No. 609 5171626).

Completed entry
forms with the full entry fee should reach this office not later than 21th April, 2009. As places for participation are
limited, acceptance is based on a `first come first served basis’. The Organiser reserves the right to accept or
refuse submissions for registration.

FEE SCHEDULE
The entry fees per team of six (6) is as follows:
1. Private Sector/International : RM1,700.00 2. Students : RM 1200.00
3. Government Agencies/NGO/Commitee : RM1,500.00
For additional participants per team, a levy of RM200.00 per person is charged. The entry fee includes the payment for a standard bamboo raft measuring 5’x25’ complete with a helm, a shed frame, a pair of bamboo oars
t-shirts, face towels, caps, personal insurance coverage, safety flags, signs and ropes. Although meals and snacks are provided, participants are free to bring along additional refreshments and even their own alternate light
oars. Payments are by cheques/money orders/postal orders and they should be crossed and made payable to the

THE TEAMS
Officially each team shall consist of a six (6) crew members only– five members will be on the raft at all times
during the expedition whilst the sixth, shall serve as reserve. Teams with only 4 members are not allowed to take
part in the expedition. The reserve will follow the expedition on land (the cost of the overland transport shall be
borne by the team) and can only replace the rafting crew at identified stops or at locations permitted by the
Technical Director.

TEAM REQUIREMENTS
All participants are advised to bring along adventure gear such as tents, sleeping bags, lifejackets, sufficient
clothing and canvas shoes, mosquito/insect repellants, sun lotion, torch lights, disposable plastic bags and other
personal needs. They may need some additional gear like oars, bicycle tyre tubes, a heavy knife and such. It is advisable that only basic essentials are brought on to the rafts to reduce weight. One’s essentials should be wrapped tightly in plastic bags. In case of an emergency these essentials will not get soaked and may float.

REGISTRATION
All teams are required to register with the Organizer on Sunday 23 May 2009 from 9.00 am to 6.30pm at Esplanade Park, Temerloh. The rafts are numbered and the distribution of the rafts to participating teams will be based on the registration numbers. Participants are not allowed to choose or change their rafts. Each team will receive goodies such as T-shirts, caps, face towels, safety flags, team name, ropes, drinks, snacks and plastic bags upon registration.

BRIEFING
Team Leaders, crew members and rafters will be required to attend an expedition briefing. The time and venue will be advised during registration. There will be daily briefing at 9.00pm by the Technical Director at every stop and all team leaders are required to attend. Team leaders may discuss problems and give constructive ideas to the secretariat officials during briefing.

FOOD AND DRINKS
Food and drinks are provided during the expedition. Packed lunch and refreshments (tea breaks) will be delivered to the raft while breakfast and dinner will be served at the stops. Every team may collect drinks and snacks from the secretariat every morning before departure. Participants may bring their own additional food or drinks too.

PRIZES
Although the expedition is a non-competitive event, there will be special motivational prizes for the best decorated raft, the most disciplined team and other categories. Prizes will be presented at the finishing point in the Royal Town of Pekan.

HYGIENE AND HEALTH
Participants are not to litter the river. Plastic bags are provided for the collection of garbage to be discarded upon
arrival at the stops. Please avoid consuming river water. Participants are advised to get enough sleep and rest to
continue the journey for the next day.


ACCOMODATION & TRANSPORTATION
Participants may arrange for their own overnight accommodations and transport. However, the Organizer will
prepare camp sites with basic amenities like toilets and bathrooms. Participants may also arrange for homestay in
the village through the secretariat if so desired.


RAFT AND DECORATIONS
The participants are encourage to decorate their rafts using their creativity. Participants may display or advertise
logos, mottos or organization’s name on the roof frame of the raft. Participants are advised to come early for the registration as the decoration of the raft has to be done on the same day. No replacement will be made by the organizer in case of any damage to the raft because of modifications or decorations.

SAFETY
For safety, life jackets must be worn at all the times when in the water. If participants get into any safety problems or need help, they use the red flag to communicate with the rescue team or technical crews. A Scout Team would have mark the hazards with flags (RED for caution / danger) and (GREEN for safe). Some of the hazards that participants may encounter along the route include tree stumps/submerged boles and boughs, stones/bedrocks, sand pump ropes/cables, bridge pillars and sandy islets. Dodge or keep the raft some distance away from the hazards as the river current can be unpredictable. Participants are not to bring their valuables. The Organizer will not be responsible for any theft or loss during the Expedition


INSTRUCTION
Participants are to obey all instructions given by the technical crew especially before departure and at arrivals at
the stops.

FOLLOWING ALL INSTRUCTIONS WILL ENSURE THE SMOOTH OPERATION OF THE
EXPEDITION.
